The Department of Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases focuses on both fundamental and applied research. Fundamental research is aimed at the cure of HIV and the study of inflammatory processes, while applied research deals with the control and treatment of infectious diseases (HIV, TB, antimicrobial stewardship) in Belgium and internationally, as well as the care of multimorbid patients with inflammatory diseases. We make this innovative approach the link from groundbreaking laboratory research to powerful clinical applications.
