The Cancer Research Institute Ghent (CRIG) brings together, promotes and accelerates multidisciplinary and innovative cancer research in Ghent. CRIG brings together more than 750 researchers from various fields of expertise at Ghent University, UZ Gent and VIB-UGent. CRIG acts as a central point of contact for cancer research in Ghent, and also collaborates with other research institutes, foundations, companies and the general public.

- Project management and coordination of cancer research & stimulating/facilitating (multidisciplinary) collaborations
- Organisation of conferences/events on oncology
- Organisation of education/training for cancer researchers
- Promoting and facilitating interaction between the laboratory and the clinic regarding cancer research and care (in collaboration with the UZ Gent Cancer Centre)
- Identifying (and supporting) expertise and platforms for cancer research
- Securing cancer research funding for Ghent-based researchers through competitive (leveraging) grants (CRIG ‘young investigator proof-of-concept’ grants and CRIG ‘partnership’ grants)
- Networking with internal and external stakeholders in the field of oncology (internal departments, external research centres, companies, non-profit organisations & foundations, patient associations, donors, the general public, etc.)
- Coordination of international networks in the field of cancer research
- Valorization of cancer research: partnerships with companies, support and project management for commercialisation projects and funding applications, support with patents, contracts, licences, spin-offs, etc.
- Fundraising for cancer research
- Communication & outreach regarding cancer research
