At the Biobank UZ Gent, we support both academic and industry-sponsored research with state-of-the-art biobanking and project management. From sample processing and standardised registration of samples to reliable access to samples and associated data: we ensure that research is efficient, reliable and well-documented.

Services

We work with you to develop study designs, workflows, logistics and budgets – the sooner you involve us, the smoother and more cost-effective your project will be. Our services include:

• Sample processing: processing of liquids and tissues, aliquoting, automated DNA/RNA extraction, PBMC isolation
• Quality control: RIN/DIN determination via TapeStation
• Freezing: controlled freezing and snap-freezing of tissues, freezing of viable tissue fragments
• Sample storage: room temperature, -80°C and liquid nitrogen (-196°C), monitored 24/7
• Digital histology: digitisation of FFPE slides (brightfield & fluorescence)
• Sample transport: full documentation, transport on dry ice or in liquid nitrogen
• Access to samples and associated (clinical) data: both tumour samples via the Belgian Virtual Tumour Biobank (BVT) and other samples and associated (clinical) data for scientific research
• Project management (establishing biobank collections/launching biobank projects)
• Advice on the ethical and legal aspects of biobanking
